Studying a fashion business course in London, Arabella decided to apply as she’s always loved Vogue Magazine and wanted to be in an environment where she could experience and learn from industry experts who are actively contributing to the fashion industry. Talk about making the most of your summer!

Q: If you had to describe your experience with Vogue Summer School in one word, what would it be?

A: Immersive – I tried to involve myself in every activity that we did and get out of my comfort zone. This was also a fantastic opportunity to meet new friends and people from all over the world, many of whom I have stayed in contact with.

Q: What have you learned during your studies that have stuck with you?

A: Something that Lilah Ramzi, Party Editor for Vogue.com and my teacher, taught me was the history of the House of Worth empire and all about its rise in costume dresses for the women of the 1800’s. [House of Worth was a fashion house founded by English designer Charles Federick Worth specialising in haute couture, ready to wear and perfumes. Sadly, it closed in 1956.] I had the opportunity to witness one of these iconic dresses from the brand on our trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Sleeping Beauty Exhibition, where I also got to see many other amazing dresses, designs from Dior, Iris Van Herpen, Alexander McQueen and so much more. It was a real treat. This trip was just one of many that I got to go on.

Q: What was your most memorable moment during Vogue Summer School?

A: I think that the most memorable experience was when we visited Vogue HQ and got the chance to look around the fashion cupboard and see what the current employees of Vogue were choosing to show and style in future issues of Vogue Magazine. This was a dream for me to see and to this day I can’t believe I got the opportunity to be able to view some of the clothes that got featured in Vogue. On the same day we also visited the offices of Vogue, where we got to go on a walk around and see Anna Wintour’s office and Vogue’s writers choosing what to place in the magazine. Overall, this day was so incredible and was one of my favourite moments of the two-week program.

Q: Do you have any advice for future Vogue Summer School students?

A: Definitely get involved with every activity that the course presents as you never know what you might learn from interacting with new people and learning from being in a different environment and how a diverse culture can inspire you. When you get the chance to hear from guest speakers, ask as many questions as you can so you can learn from them. This way you will be able to see and understand more about the fashion industry.

Q: If you were to go back to the start of the course, what is something you would do differently?

A: I honestly wouldn’t do anything differently. I had an absolutely spectacular experience and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone thinking about applying for the program. I will always remember this once in a lifetime experience to partake in and learn from the extraordinary Vogue about the fashion industry in the city of New York. I would say that once I sent in my application, I was a little hesitant as to whether I would get into such an unbelievable course, but when I received my acceptance email, it was one of the best days of my life. I was so proud to tell my family.

Q: Any last words?

A: The two-week program was amazingly well organised, and with travelling to another country I felt so safe with the LC’s and teachers. I really enjoyed all the evening excursions where I got to explore all over the city and immerse myself in New York culture.

Q: What’s next for you?

A: I am looking forward to completing my course in London, then applying to a fashion university in the following months. I specifically like the look of Fashion Journalism courses and I want to learn more from prestigious, industry professionals that can build upon my time on the Vogue Summer School program.
