Our MA Fashion Journalism & Editorial Direction programme offers an in-depth exploration of fashion media, focusing on journalism, editorial practices, and content creation. Built on the expertise of Vogue, this programme blends academic study, practical workshops, self-directed research, and industry-led masterclasses. It spans print, digital, and multimedia platforms, providing a comprehensive understanding of contemporary fashion storytelling.
The course equips you with the skills necessary to excel in fashion journalism and editorial direction, from concept development and research to the creative and commercial aspects of content creation. As part of the course, you will develop your professional practice through the creation of written, visual and audio outcomes.
During the learning experience, you’ll engage with industry professionals to gain real-world insights and connections. A four-week optional work placement is integrated into the curriculum, offering invaluable hands-on experience.
Structure
This one-year programme is structured over four 10-week terms at RQF level 7. It combines academic study with industry-focused skills, preparing you for a career in the fashion media, fashion business, and luxury lifestyle industries.

Modules
Our programme is designed for those passionate about fashion journalism, eager to explore editorial direction, and willing to collaborate with other creatives. The modules include:
Critical Research: Understanding Audiences
This module provides an overview of essential research methods and tools for gaining insight into audiences. You’ll learn about research philosophy, ethics, and both primary and secondary methods. The module also covers how to analyse, evaluate, and present research findings, helping you understand the connection between theory and practice in media industries.
Fashion Media Futures
This module focuses on the importance of staying agile in the fast-paced world of fashion media. You’ll learn to evaluate societal, technological, political, and economic changes and their impact on the industry. Working in teams with students from different Fashion Media programmes, you’ll respond to emerging trends and create innovative solutions that address current and future challenges.
Fashion Writing & Criticism
In this module, you’ll develop your written communication skills across various media platforms, with a focus on fashion journalism. You’ll also explore other writing styles, such as criticism, opinion, and creative writing for fashion. The module emphasises the importance of editing and feedback in the writing process, helping you refine your work and respond effectively to editorial decisions.
Planning & Managing Editorial Content
This module delves into the role of the editor in both print and digital fashion media. You’ll learn about commissioning work, planning content, and ensuring the right tone and focus for different brands and audiences. The module also explores the commercial factors involved in editorial decisions and how fashion media brands operate in a globalised industry.<
Final Master’s Project
The Final Master’s Project is your opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in a practical, career-focused outcome. Whether creating a portfolio, launching a project, or exploring an entrepreneurial idea, your work will be supported by a written thesis. This project connects academic theory with real-world practice, showcasing your ability to navigate the fashion communication landscape.

Accrediting Body & Award Structure
This programme holds international recognition as a degree qualification accredited and conferred by The University of Buckingham. It is structured as four 10-week terms spread across one academic year at RQF level 7. The programme combines academic rigour and industry engagement with practical and professional skills, drawing on the expertise of Vogue<’s wide network of industry professionals.
Credits
The degree carries a value of 180 credits within the UK’s Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) at level 7, equivalent to 90 European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits.

This programme contains modules, experiences and opportunities designed to equip you with the essential skills, knowledge and practice crucial for a successful fashion career, from personal development to professional working practice.
Within the course content, there will be many career and professional development elements and activities available to you, including:

Deposit Payment & Instalment Options
To secure your place on the course, a deposit of £3,000.00 is required within 14 days of receiving your offer. Please note, the deposit option is unavailable for bookings made within six weeks of the course start date where full course fees are required.
Students have the option to pay the tuition fee in instalments over the duration of the course. International students are required to pay the first instalment of the course fee in full and in advance to obtain the CAS number necessary for Student Visa purposes.
Student Loans, Scholarships, & Bursaries
Students studying at Vogue College of Fashion are currently ineligible for student loans.
