Vogue Summer School: Fashion Business is a comprehensive, four-week summer programme designed to introduce you to the business of fashion. This course offers an immersive experience, combining theoretical knowledge with practical insights and real-world applications.

 

You will explore the essential components of running a successful fashion business, from brand development and marketing strategies to operational management and entrepreneurship. The course delves into brand strategy, teaching you how to create and sustain a strong brand identity in a competitive market. You’ll also gain hands-on experience in marketing and promotional strategies tailored to the fashion industry, learning how to effectively use digital and traditional channels to reach and engage your audience.

The curriculum includes practical workshops, interactive case studies, and guest lectures from industry leaders, including professionals from Vogue and other Condé Nast brands. You will complete a team project in the form of a business proposal for Vogue that you will present at the end of the course. These experiences are designed to enhance your understanding and provide you with the skills needed to navigate the fashion business landscape successfully.

The programme’s practical focus ensures that you not only learn key concepts but also apply them through collaborative projects and real-world scenarios. Alongside this, you will create practical examples of work as a way to demonstrate learned skills. This hands-on approach will prepare you for a successful career in the fashion industry, providing a solid foundation in business practices and strategic thinking.

Structure

The Vogue Summer School is an immersive program designed around weekly themes that sharpen your focus and enrich your studies. Delivered by experienced industry practitioners and leading academics, the curriculum offers a diverse lineup of lectures that bring valuable industry insights, coupled with hands-on workshops to help you build essential practical skills.

To further enhance your learning experience, the program incorporates exhibition visits and field trips, transforming London into a dynamic classroom where you’ll explore relevant cultural and industry sites firsthand.

Classes are held on campus from Monday to Thursday, while Fridays are reserved for self-directed study and collaborative group work. On the final Friday, you’ll present your group assignments at the college, culminating the day—and your journey—with the celebratory End of Course Celebration.

Modules

This four-week programme provides a focused yet extensive introduction to the fashion business.

Week 1: Introduction & Context of Fashion

During the first week, we will induct you to the College and introduce the course content and team project that will be completed during the course. Other key topics include:

  • Introduction to the world of fashion & fashion business
  • The world of Condé Nast, it’s titles and its business channels
  • The fashion system
  • Key skills for business & entrepreneurship

Week 2: Marketing Strategies for Fashion Brands & Businesses

This week provides an overall insight into the key practices of marketing, branding and promotion functions within the fashion industry, considering how they interconnect with business direction and strategy. Students will consider the key influences on fashion and identify wider macro-environmental trends that shape the industry. Other key topics include:

  • Business & marketing research & trend analysis
  • Understanding customers – knowing your target audience
  • Developing a business concept
  • Creating concept boards

Week 3: The Future of Fashion Brands & Businesses

During week 3, the focus is on learning about the future of fashion and considering how new businesses are, or could, disrupt the system. During this week, students will work to develop final pitches and work on creating a pitch video. Other key topics include:

  • Digital strategies for fashion business
  • Fashion & the metaverse
  • Fashion, circularity & new business models
  • Crowdfunding campaigns

Week 4: Fashion Business & Disruption

The final week will focus on completing and presenting the team course assignment. Other key topics include:

  • Career opportunities in the fashion industry
  • Entrepreneurship / running a fashion business
  • Fashion networking

Accreditation

Accrediting Body & Award Structure

This programme is accredited and conferred by The University of Buckingham. It is a four-week course at RQF level 4, combining academic theory with practical industry insights and leveraging Vogue’s extensive network.

Credits

The course is worth 15 credits within the UK’s Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) at level 4, equivalent to 7.5 European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits.

This programme contains tasks, experiences and opportunities designed to equip you with the essential skills, knowledge and practice crucial for building a successful career in fashion from personal development to professional practice.

Within the course content, there will be many career and professional development elements and activities available to you such as meeting industry professionals, learning about different career journeys and understanding potential careers opportunities withing fashion media.
