Montserrat Iglesias is a professor of Literary Theory and Comparative Literature at the Carlos III University of Madrid, where she was Vice-Chancellor for Culture and Communication and Delegate of the Rector for the Dialogue of Sciences and Humanities.

Between 2012 and 2014 she served as Director of Culture at the Instituto Cervantes, and later, until 2018, she was General Director of the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM), at the Ministry of Culture. She studied Hispanic and Italian Philology at the University of Santiago de Compostela, obtaining the Extraordinary Degree Award. She completed her doctoral studies at the University of Santiago de Compostela, the University of Pennsylvania (USA) and the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium), obtaining the European Doctorate in Theory of Literature and Comparative Literature, for which he was awarded the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize.

She has developed part of his academic activity in the most prestigious international universities, where he has given lectures, seminars and doctoral courses, both in North American universities (Harvard, Brown, Columbia, Princeton, University of Colorado) and in European universities (King’s College London, University of Giessen, Catholic University of Louvain, University of Aix-en-Provence, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice).

Since its creation in 2010 he has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Teatro Real, currently chaired by Antonio Muñoz Molina, with Mario Vargas Llosa as honorary president. From 2022 to 2024 she was President of the Teatro de la Abadía Foundation.
